Update on OSU/OGH Alliance

Over the past twelve months, OSU Soccer and the Ottawa Gloucester Hornets have had the opportunity to formalize and grow our Club Alliance which was announced in 2015. A unique partnership, seen as a forward-thinking step for Ottawa’s soccer youth, is taking a leap forward this August with our first formal partnership event.

Collectively, we are excited to work together to support each other’s festivals/tournaments, as well as player and coaching development initiatives. Within the scope of the Alliance, we have seen several Hornet players join the OSU Force Academy which has allowed them the chance to compete at the provincial level and in a few cases has led to being recognized by national associations, professional clubs and Canadian/US universities. With these great first steps to build on, we look to continue to grow and formalize these elements of our alliance heading into the 2016–2017 cycle.

In late August, while OSU hosts international coaches from Liverpool F.C., Newcastle and Hibernian, they will get the opportunity to work directly with players from the Ottawa Gloucester Hornets. During these events which will be held in part at the Hornets' Nest, the membership of the Hornets will also have the opportunity to learn more about the elite player development program within the OPDL, which OSU is a founding partner of the league. The event will also give our associations a chance for our club coaches to network and come together for the betterment of players in our region. Overall, we are proud of how both of our organizations are working together with the collective strategy to make player development in Eastern Ontario better.
